Death Data

This page is to help you in your researching of death information pertaining to those folks who once lived and died in the Tri County area. Other information is being gathered as well for those who may have only passed through our communities, but information about their deaths, may have been shared back here with friends.
Some of the sources which are a great help and may often be over looked because we either get lazy in our study, or we simply have a "senior moment" and we just forget.
The indices links are at the bottom of this page.

Here are few sources not to be over looked in your research.

Death Certificates - Local Courthouses, expect to pay about $12 each.

Family Records - Local historical societies have the greater amount of these.
Church Records - some historical societies and even a few of the remaining churches may have.

Cemetery Office - usually only those with perpetual care have databases. Some older sextons may have but records are often lost or thrown away when he or she dies.

Gravestones Photographs*- here more and more are being found on the internet. Some in local family histories.

Funeral Home Records* - As stated "Funeral Homes" would have the majority of these. Some are found at the different historical societies.

Memorial Cards - in my own research, I've found most are with private collectors.

Obituaries and Reported Deaths from local newspapers* - OLD NEWSPAPERS are your best bet. A lot can be found at the historical societies but most are donated by folks like us. I'd stay with the libraries and their microfilm machines.

Probate Records* - Courthouses win hands down. Most societies only have an index and as you know, an index don't tell you squat!

Social Security Death Index* - Ancestry. com is the best around, but you have to be a member or know someone who is. Or, you can try your luck with the government. Yeah! Good luck with that!

Mortality Schedules* - Always try to view the originals when you can. Index and indices are okay if your a name collector, but if you pride yourself and your research, then you want the article. Here again, Ancestry. com is the best source for these.

The Tri County News has a few of these death databases but not all. As you search the web site you may find something that we can help you with.
